Ahmad Bradshaw Not Practicing, Fantasy Value In Decline

Source: Colts’ Bradshaw considering neck surgery

Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 Ahmad Bradshaw not practicing, fantasy value in decline Related In partnership with SBNation.com By James Brady Indianapolis Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw is not at team practice on Wednesday, according to Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star . Bradshaw is dealing with a neck injury that kept him out of the team’s Week 4 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars . Bradshaw didn’t practice at all prior to that game. He was injured in a win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3, while splitting carries with Trent Richardson. Bradshaw was originally supposed to split with Vick Ballard , but was taking over the starting role after he got injured and before Richardson was acquired. Now, on the sidelines again, Bradshaw could lose what was originally a 50/50 split with Richardson.

3, 2013 Ahmad Bradshaw injury means season-ending surgery on the table; fantasy owners watch closely Related In partnership with SBNation.com By Daniel Kelley Indianapolis Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw faces several questions as he attempts to work his way back from a neck injury suffered in Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers . The team has said that season-ending surgery is one of the possibilities , according to an Indianapolis Star report. Bradshaw missed Week 4 after rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in the 49ers game. The team traded for Trent Richardson to be its starting running back before Week 3. Fantasy impact: It’s far too early in the process to do anything drastic regarding Bradshaw, as “treatment and rest” is also a possibility. He’s not a starting option until he’s definitely back to playing, but it’s hard to recommend cutting him if owners have had him in a deep league or as a Richardson handcuff.

Donald Brown has 13 carries for 120 yards this year and the Colts will add Robert Hughes to the rushing mix as well. The Colts expected an improved running game since offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton joined the team when Bruce Arians left for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job. So far, the offense on the ground has impressed veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne. “We’ve been talking about it since the offseason and it’s starting to come to life,” Wayne said. “As a receiver it definitely helps when you have a running game that’s going to keep the defense honest.” But the way players continue to push Indy’s ground game forward despite setbacks hasn’t been a surprise. “Even before Coach Pagano was here, the motto was always, `Next man up,”’ Wayne said.

Colts’ Ahmad Bradshaw could require season-ending neck surgery

3 From Josina Anderson of ESPN: Source: Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw is traveling to Arizona today for another medical evaluation of his neck. Josina Anderson (@JosinaAnderson) October 3, 2013 10:27 AM ET UPDATE: Thursday, Oct. 3 Mike Chappell of IndyStar.com reports Ahmad Bradshaw’s (neck) season could be in jeopardy: The Indianapolis Colts are hopeful but concerned regarding the immediate and long-term status of Ahmad Bradshaw, according to a team source. Ideally, the neck injury suffered by theveteranrunning back at San Francisco Sept. 22 will heal on its own with treatment and rest. However, the source added there is a level of concern that surgery might be required, which would bring into question Bradshaws status for the remainder of the season. Chappell also passed along a statement from Colts head coach Chuck Pagano discussing Bradshaw’s availability this season following Wednesday’s practice: Wednesday, coach Chuck Pagano indicated he still was awaiting definitive word on Bradshaw from the teams doctors and trainers.

We’ve made adjustments for that. Bradshaw inherited the starting job when Ballard tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during practice three weeks ago. He ran 15 times for 65 yards and one touchdown in a loss to Miami and started against San Francisco, just days after the Colts traded for running back Trent Richardson. Cleveland had taken Richardson with the third overall pick in the 2012 draft. Bradshaw left the game on the opening series against the 49ers after taking a hard hit near his head. He returned and finished with 19 carries for 95 yards and another TD – his best game with the Colts.

Justin Tuck is healthy, ready to wreak havoc again for Giants

Maybe hes not on that Hall of Fame level, but he was supposed to be Strahans heir apparent as the face and heart of the defense. Its a young, struggling defense now, and theres no Strahan or Antonio Pierce to pull it together. The fiery Antrel Rolle is still a major factor, but in many ways the defense gets its pulse from Tuck. The last two seasons, that wasnt much of a pulse at all except for six weeks late in 2011 when Tuck magically looked like his old self. In a six-game span he had 51/2 sacks and was a dominant presence on defense. The Giants didnt lose any of those games including a 21-17 win over New England behind Tucks two sacks in Super Bowl XLVI. That bright spot was an aberration, though, not a turning point. In 2012, Tuck endured yet another injury-plagued season and said, My performance was nowhere near what I envisioned for myself. What he envisions in 2013 is a bounce-back season during which hes a force again on defense and nobody thinks for a second that hes almost done.

After two down seasons, Justin Tuck is re-energized

Giants defensive end Justin Tuck practices during team

Veteran NFL writer Pete Prisco of CBS Sports called Tuck the most overrated player in the NFL. “[Tuck] spent more time doing Subway commercials than playing good football in 2012,” Prisco wrote in a column last month. “He was a definite name-over-game player with just four sacks. There were times on tape where you wondered how he was ever a dominant pass rusher.” Ouch. Tuck said he doesn’t take the remarks seriously. “It would sting if I believed it, or if I cared about what [Prisco] thought of me,” Tuck said. “I don’t get caught up in people judging what I do when they can’t do it. If I said, ‘Bob, you’re a [lousy] writer,’ you shouldn’t give a damn because if you put my writing against your writing, that wouldn’t even be a contest.

Justin Tuck and the NY Giants better hope he has something left

With whispers growing louder about the job security of Tom Coughlin, Tuck says he better not hear any of that noise, lest he introduce his fist to your face. He told the New York Daily News : If anyone turns on our coach, I would be the first one to punch him in the mouth. And put that in print. It better not happen, I know that. Given the context, its hard to tell if Tucks mouth-punching threat is just for people inside the Giants locker room turns on anyone at all who turns on Coughlin. If its the latter, is he going to stake out theNew York Post offices to punch headline writers? Is he going to listen to Mike Francesa all week so he can add Dominic from Bayside to the hit list? And is this retroactive? Should Tiki Barber start walking the streets in a helmet?

The answer might surprise you . Ive had opportunities to play the game at the highest level, the Super Bowl, Ive had opportunities to get sacks and big plays at the Super Bowl. Ive also had opportunities to hunt some of the more majestic animals that God has put on this earth. I dont know if I could put one higher than the other, but theyre both pretty awesome. Interesting. Sacking the golden boy is equivalent to shooting a glorious animal trophy? It makes some sense, sure, but there are plenty of differences. Does that animal have a contract with Uggs ? Is he coached by an older stag wearing a ripped sweatshirt and lugging around a video camera to tape the habits of other deer?

Jason Pierre-paul’s Concussion-related Symptoms Could Ko Ny Giants Pass Rush

Jason Pierre-Paul off PUP list

Smith_Alex 131004 [203x114]

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul spent Friday getting tested for concussion-related symptoms. He has yet to be diagnosed with a concussion, but his status for Sundays visit to Foxborough is questionable. Jason is doing all the protocols, Tom Coughlin said. He had a headache (on Thursday), so we put him through all the tests for a possible concussion, and we will see how that goes. Pierre-Paul was involved in a helmet-to-helmet collision with another player during practice drills on Thursday. Coughlin said the hit hardly seemed serious at first, but then Pierre-Paul began complaining of headaches. All of a sudden, he was off to the side, Coughlin said. He didnt feel good, and they shut him right down. So much for the much-hyped NASCAR line.

I am going to do good out there. I feel more comfortable about myself going out there and practicing with the team.” “I don’t have [a] goal,” he added of what’s next. “I am taking it day by day. I am not trying to rush. A back [injury] is a serious thing. Back surgery is a serious thing. You can’t try coming [back] too early; you will mess it up even more so.” Pierre-Paul played through back pain for much of last season and saw his sacks total dip from 16.5 in 2011 to 6.5.

Jason Pierre-Paul: ‘I’m pretty sure’ Giants will beat Chiefs in Week 4

When opposing centers snapped the ball, many expected “JPP” to either swallow up running backs or leap over linemen for game-changing sacks. And why not? Pierre-Paul was freakish in how he dominated games in his first two seasons, only to struggle last year because of a back injury. When Pierre-Paul had disk surgery in June, the Autographed Jason Pierre-Paul Womens Jersey assumption was he would dominate games once again when he returned. When It didn’t happen in the season opener against Dallas, many felt it was because he missed training camp. Heading into Week 5 against the Eagles (1-3) at MetLife Stadium, the Giants’ wait for JPP continues. He has 12 total tackles, one sack and he’s been pushed around more than he has pushed.

Jason Pierre-Paul returns for Giants

Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul looks to block

The Giants still had better hope that Pierre-Paul is on to something, because their season is already on the verge of slipping away. Last Sundays belly flop in Carolina may have been the low point the Giants certainly want to believe it was. The Panthers sacked Eli Manning seven times and led 31-0 at the end of three quarters, before coasting home. Pierre-Paul, who missed the whole preseason after back surgery, made his first start of 2013 in that game. So perhaps his return to a full-time role will help spark the defense. Through three weeks of the regular season, no team in football has allowed more points than the Giants (115). Each of their past two foes have topped 400 yards. The Giants own offense, meanwhile, has mustered all of 54 points in three games, the 27th best mark in the league.

Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul Trying To Regain Form After Surgery

The defensive end, the Giants’ most dynamic playmaker up front, saw his first game action of the year against the Cowboys in Sunday night’s’s opener at AT&T Stadium. Pierre-Paul had back surgery in the spring, and the hope always was that he would be back in time for the opener. But he was coy this past week even as he participated in team practices. An hour and a half before kickoff, Pierre-Paul was announced as one of the Giants’ active players. He was officially listed as questionable when the team arrived in Dallas on Saturday. Pierre-Paul had said he would prefer not to be a part-time player and come in only on third downs. But he also had not played in any preseason games and missed most of the practices until he was taken off the PUP list about 10 days ago. Conditioning, he said this past week, would be an issue for him. http://www.giantspro.com/199-men-s-nike-new-york-giants-90-jason-pierre-paul-limited-lights-out-black-nfl-jersey.html Pierre-Paul has had impressive games in Dallas.

New York Giants: Jason Pierre-Paul’s Back Surgery Team’s Biggest Injury

Key injuries are a part of the issue. The Giants lost starting safety Stevie Brown to a season-ending knee injury. Middle linebacker Dan Connor and fullback Henry Hynoski have gone on IR since the season began. The offensive line has suffered injuries to veterans Chris Snee, David Baas and David Diehl. The injury that has cost the Giants the most this season might, however, actually be to a player who has been on the field for all four games so far. Jason Pierre-Paul had back surgery during the offseason, and still does not look like himself. JPP had an All-Pro season in 2011, his second in the NFL, with 16.5 sacks. He was good last season, though not great, compiling 6.5 sacks and admitting during the offseason that his back troubled him. Pierre-Paul is the Giants’ best defensive player, and the only real difference-maker they have in their front seven. So far this season he has been anything but dynamic.

Liguori: Harry Carson On Concussions And Suicide

Harry Carson: Watch my NFL expose before your kid plays football

They are recognizing that their husbands are having neurological problems, some who now suffer dementia, depression, have problems focusing, long after theyve left the game Troy Aikman recently said on television that with all the information now out about concussions, he doesnt know if he wants his 10-year-old to play football. It was on my Sports Innerview radio program last year, when Carson admitted that had he known that he would suffer long term effects from all the concussions he had throughout his football career, he would never have played football. Playing football was not my first goal. I studied to be an educator, Carson said at Thursdays Head Injury Association program. Liz Giordano, CEO of the Head Injury Association says, Once the diagnosis is post concussion syndrome, there is no treatment for it. You avoid the triggers. For example, you avoid flashing lights. You avoid being around loud noises which are known to bring on headaches. Those who suffer with depression take anti-depression medication. Perhaps Carson summed it up best when he said, I saw this 15-20 years ago.

Before his 13-year career with the New York Giants, he only thought he understood the dangers of entering into a sport which, by sheer virtue of its rules, encourages head-on collisions. Out of the game for 25 years, Carson says he was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome that he says resulted from the hard hits he took repeatedly during his playing years. Many retired players have sued the league, claiming that years of injuries led to neurological damage, dementia and other illnesses. And it’s not just about pro football; Carson says injuries start accumulating negative effects when players are young. “Parents need to know what they’re signing up for,” Carson, 59, told reporters Tuesday at the TV press tour in Beverly Hills. Carson has already decided what the answer will be for his 3-year-old grandson. “Knowing what I know now, I do not want him to play,” he said. “I’ve told his mom, my daughter, that he’s not gonna play football.” Not surprisingly, producers said the NFL refused to cooperate with “League of Denial.” But Carson says the public was shaken by the suicide last year of Junior Seau, a former Pro Bowl linebacker.

It is uncertain whether evidence of brain injury can be found, given that he shot himself in the head. A study of 85 brains donated by the families of deceased veterans and athletes with history of brain trauma, — released this month by researchers at Boston University ‘s Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy — found that 34 of 35 former pro football players’ brains showed evidence of the disease. Giants’ Nicks Aims To Play Full Season

Giants stink in fantasy football, too

Some — but not all — of this production came once Andre Johnson was concussed. Since then, I’ve ranked Hopkins as a startable deep-league option, at least as a high-upside, scary-downside flex. And he hasn’t exactly rewarded me. Against the Baltimore Ravens , he caught a respectable six balls for 60 yards, but, Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks , he was limited to two grabs on three targets for 27 yards. Yikes. Hopkins was essentially invisible for wide swaths of the game, beating Brandon Browner man-on-man for his first grab, and catching a short zone route in overtime.

But last year, Nicks broke his foot in OTAs and then injured his knee in Week 2 against Tampa Bay. He labored through injuries the rest of the season and finished with just 53 catches for a career-low 692 yards and three touchdowns. With Nicks slowed by injuries, the Giants offense and the big passing plays suffered and the defending champs failed to make the playoffs.

Hakeem Nicks has another poor day in fantasy, doesn’t blame drops on finger injury

Nicks was targeted nine times on Sunday, an increase of eight passes thrown his way from Week 3, but he only managed to catch three of them for 33 yards. Nicks also got his hands on three other passes, but all of them were dropped, which is the big issue. If a receiver is well covered, then he’s well covered, but these were blatant drops. The hand injury in question was sustained in Week 2, in which he caught four passes for 83 yards. Prior to that, he caught five passes for 114 yards in the opener. He’s been productive at times, but along with his quarterback, Eli Manning , and the rest of the team, he’s in a slump. Fantasy Impact: It’s good to see that Nicks believes the injury has not played a factor, which should be a relief for fantasy owners.
